As per the order of Spain’s court, IPTV Smarters Pro has been removed from the Google Play Store. Initially, the case was filed by the Spanish football league giant, La Liga.
Story Behind IPTV Smarters Pro Removal
La Liga has been cracking down on pirated streams and services for several years. They are specifically targeting third-party IPTV subscriptions and free-to-access streaming websites.
In early 2022, LaLiga submitted a list to European Commission that included 20 non-licensed IPTV services and 30 streaming sites. Moreover, the league Spanish league giant also named 80 video players.
However, the submission wasn’t quite successful. EU’s Counterfeiting and Piracy Watch List 2022 only found one app suspicious – IPTV Smarters.
IPTV Smarters Getting Withdrawn
Trading under the brand WHMCS Smarters, the European Commission found IPTV Smarters bogus. European Commission response document said that WHMCS Smarters is an IPTV software solution provider that also offers several other online digital services, including web design and development, app development, and billing platforms. The company also offers an app IPTV Smarters Pro, an IPTV media player.
Motion Picture Association, MPA, also labeled WHMCS Smarters as a Piracy-as-a-Service PaaS with a “Notorious Market” status. United States Trade Representative took MPA’s concern.
However, the European Commission and the United States Trade Representative didn’t make any specific allegations.
On December 22, 2022, La Liga announced that Google has agreed to remove IPTV Smarters Pro from the Google Play Store.
