Shark Week, the annual week-long event, starts Sunday.
Typically, the week is dedicated to TV programming on the Discovery Channel showcasing shark-based features.
Shark Week originally premiered in 1988 and since then has grown in popularity, becoming a week many look forward to every year.
But for those who want to dedicate some of their time to shark-based films, here are 10 movies that feature those cunning creatures looking to snack on anyone that gets in their way.
‘Deep Blue Sea’ – 1999
In a remote underwater facility, doctors are conducting research on mako sharks to help in the reactivation of dormant human brain cells to help combat Alzheimer’s disease.

After removing a piece of brain tissue from the largest shark in their captivity, scientists are ecstatic as their research is working. But celebrations end quickly when the shark bites off a scientist’s arm causing a domino effect of chaos as multiple genetically engineered sharks go on a rampage to flood the facility and kill everyone.

‘Fin’ – 2021
Horror director Eli Roth takes his stab at documentary filmmaking with his 2021 project, “Fin.”
The documentary follows Roth and a group of scientists, researchers and activists as they travel the world to unveil the truth behind the death of millions of sharks every year.

‘Jaws’ – 1975
Based on the 1974 novel, “Jaws” tells the story about a killer shark terrorizing the small community of Amity Island.
When the remains of a shark attack victim are discovered by the town’s sheriff, he, along with a marine biologist and a shark hunter, take matters into their own hands when the city’s leadership fails to step up to the plate to save its citizens.

‘The Meg’ – 2018
Expert sea diver Jonas Taylor encounters an unknown danger while trying to save the crew of a damaged nuclear submarine. He is forced to flee and leaves two of the crew members behind to die.
Five years later, Taylor is recruited by a group of scientists exploring the floor of the Pacific Ocean. There, he and his new team come face-to-face with the unknown danger he experienced years ago — a prehistoric, 75-foot-long megalodon shark. Now they must somehow kill the gargantuan creature before it kills more.

‘Open Water’ – 2003
Loosely based on a true story about a couple who were left behind on a scuba diving trip in 1998, “Open Water” takes that idea and turns it into a survival horror.
While on vacation, Daniel and Susan decide to go scuba diving with a large group of 20 people. But when they decide to separate from the group in the Caribbean Sea, the boat leaves without them by accident and they are left stranded in the middle of nowhere. Now they’re left to try and survive on their own, until a group of sharks start circling them.

‘The Shallows’ – 2016
After losing her mother to cancer, Nancy travels to a secluded beach in Mexico — the same her mother visited when she was pregnant with Nancy.
While surfing, a great white shark knocks her off her surfboard and bites her leg. Stuck on an isolated rock, 200 yards from shore, Nancy is alone and has to use her medical knowledge to tend to her wound and her determination to survive against the shark.

‘Shark Tale’ – 2004
Oscar, a bluestreak cleaner wrasse, works at the local Whale Wash and dreams of being rich and famous. Lenny, a great white shark who is the son of mob boss, is not like his family — he’s a vegetarian.
When other sharks think Oscar was the reason for Lenny’s brother Frankie’s death, they refer to him as the Shark Slayer. Knowing the truth, Lenny forms an alliance with Oscar: pretend to slay Lenny so he can live his life as a dolphin and escape his mob family.

‘Sharknado’ – 2013
An unprecedented hurricane off the coast of Mexico sends hundreds of sharks to southern California. The meteorological phenomenon brings shark-infested tidal waves and tornadoes to Los Angeles.
Fin, a local surfer, sets out with his friends Baz and Nova — and his estranged wife April — to somehow save the city from killer sharks in the air.

‘Under Paris’ – 2024
Paris is hosting the World Triathlon Championships on the River Seine for the first time this year. But when Sophia, a marine researcher, discovers a mako shark she was experimenting on three years ago is still alive, has somehow gotten larger and has ended up the River Seine, she warns the mayor of Paris to postpone the event.
After the mayor refuses her plea, Sophia teams up with a group of supporters to track down the shark, Lilith, and put an end to her before she attacks the athletes.

’47 Meters Down’ – 2017
While vacationing in Mexico, sisters Kate and Lisa are invited to go cage diving into the deep blue sea. But while underwater, the cable snaps and sends the cage straight to the bottom of the ocean floor.
The two have a race against time before they run out of oxygen to try to swim to the surface and get rescued.
