When Latavia Bennette learned her employee had at times walked to work, she stepped into action and gave Brettne Brownson a surprise she won’t soon forget.

NORFOLK, Va. — An act of kindness will be a big help for one single mom.

A business owner surprised her employee with a new vehicle on Wednesday, after learning she didn’t have a car.

Brettne Brownson works at Homebridge Health Care Agency in Norfolk. Last week, CEO Latavia Bennette heard that Brownson, a single mother, did not have a vehicle and was taking Uber and Lyft rides and sometimes even walking to work.

Bennette said she knew she had to help. She quickly got to work, purchased an SUV, and surprised Brownson at the office.  She said Brownson is a great worker with an amazing attitude. She never made any excuses and always showed up to work.

Brownson said she’s overwhelmed with joy, and she cannot thank her boss enough. She had no idea!

“I guess she was just listening to me, and she saw that I didn’t make any excuses,” said Brownson. “I made sure to come to work every day without having a vehicle.”

Bennette told 13News Now she recalls moments in her career when she did not feel supported, and she wants the opposite for her staff.

“I had moments where I didn’t feel valued where I was at, so when I opened up my company that was something that was very important to me,” she said.

Brownson said she saved money for a vehicle but lost it when she fell victim to a scam.

Homebridge Health Care Agency provides personal and respite care services. It’s located on Tidewater Drive.
